It’s music, arts, the outdoors and more. Meade County offers an abundance of fun just waiting to be sampled. Looking for something to do outdoors? Come run, walk or hike our wonderful trails in Meade County.

Meade County lets visitors enjoy an iconic Kentucky experience — Like a Sunday drive on a winding country road, past farms and through villages. You can visit places like Otter Creek, where you might enjoy a great view, take a dip in a country stream or treat the family to an old fashioned picnic. Or explore the shops, explore Riverfront Park and eat at the historic jail, now a pizza parlor complete with prison cells. If its sports you’re looking for, you can play golf, boat, hike or take in a softball game at a modern sports complex.

For those who love hunting and fishing, Meade County ranks among the best areas in the state for these activities. With three major preservation areas surrounding the county, to include Fort Knox, the Yellow bank Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area — Not to mention the Ohio river and pay lakes, abundant with its wide variety of game fish, including Catfish, Bass, Sauger and more. So if sparkling waters, pristine woodlands, clean fresh air and clear blue skies are something you long for, look no further. And just because you’re leaving the city behind, doesn’t mean you leave luxury behind. Meade County features plenty of motels and well equipped camping venues.

John Hunt Morgan Trail

Hike along the route taken by General John Hunt Morgan and his men in 1863 as they dashed across Meade County on their way to Indiana and Ohio, when he led his troops down the main street of Brandenburg and began ferrying men and supplies across the river. See where two steamboats ferried more than 2,200 men and their horses across the Ohio River for 16 hours while being fired on by the home guard from Corydon, Indiana.

Pick blackberries, take part in the Miss Fall Harvest Pageant, shop at an authentic country store that sells pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, honey, local wood crafts and Rhonda Roberts’ own award winning homemade blackberry jam. It’s an experience everyone will enjoy, and especially young people, who will see firsthand what fertile land and hard working people can provide.
