The best plant to give as a Christmas gift is one that doesn’t need to be taken care of on a daily basis, doesn’t require a lot of sunlight, won’t die if you forget to water it, and can fill in an awkward empty corner in the recipient’s home or apartment.

There are a lot of ways to choose the right plant for someone: what they need, whether they’re into gardening, their living space, and their personal taste. One of Out favorite times of the year is Christmas, but we are not always sure which plant to give to each person. Some people want orchids, some want succulents and others want flowers.

This year we are giving people plants based on their personalities! Here’s how:

For the nature lover: Succulent planter

For the stylish friend: A potted succulent

For the hostess with the mostest: A fern planter

For the mini-garden diva: An herb planter

For the person who has everything: An indoor plant that doesn’t need much care

For the home decor enthusiast: Potted succulents in a basket

Leave it to the poets to illustrate the true spirit of Christmas. In “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” Clement Clarke Moore included one of its most beloved lines: “And [the stockings were] hung by the chimney with care.” The stockings Moore referred to were probably empty, but the sentiment still stuck in our minds as a reminder that giving is more important than receiving.
